Cigarettes
Since when was it the governments responsibility to make so many of my choices for me? The high cost of cigarettes and banning getting them cheap is obviously an attempt to discourage smoking. It's as though we smokers didn't understand the dangers of inhaling smoke into our lungs. Let me tell you something, in this day and age we all know damn well cigarettes will kill us and are addictive. It is MY choice to continue to do it and the government should play no role in my decision. No tobacco company ever convinced me to smoke and they made a good effort to let me know what it can do to me with those little warnings on every single box, its not the tobacco company's fault that I started smoking or continue to do so, it is my choice. Steps taken by the government like this scare me because what other personal choice will they try to take from me? Oh yeah, there's that whole abortion thing, and that whole smoking weed thing when weed is less dangerous than alcohol, and that whole being able to choose my own religion as George Bush thrusts Christianity down my throat.
When will this end? This is bordering on Fascism. The government is saying, okay you can buy something cheaper but we don't want you to so we will make illegal so you can pay 5 times as much because we want the taxes on it because we cut all the rich people's taxes so we are going to over tax a very specific group of people. How, in any way, is that capitalism? We claim this system of economy is so great then why are we stifling it? If this was true capitalism, the US would reconsider its high taxes on cigarettes and lower them to remain competitive. If more people bought cigarettes here with lower taxes, the government would get more money than its getting now. Who the hell is making these decisions, are they idiots, do they not understand basic capitalism?
So the next time I hear GWB or anyone for that matter, speaking about how great it is to have freedom in these United States, I will have a good laugh. Freedom is something we haven't had in a long time and anyone willing to point this out is called a whiny democrat or a communist. Banning buying cigarettes off the internet is simply one example of the many rights that our government is taking away from us one by one and no one seems to be doing a damn thing about it, so long as it protects us from terrorism. Here's a clue for everyone out there that buys crap like that, our government is lying to us, they are fear mongering and we are not in nearly as much danger as they would like you to believe. Now where did I put my Swedish cigarettes?
