Once upon a time, two sad little monkeys thought their daddy didn't love them anymore. This wasn't true of course, but monkeys, especially little monkeys don't understand certain things. All they knew what that every time their mommy and daddy talked it would turn into a fight. Sam and Simon were smart little monkeys though and they knew that together they could get their parents to love each other again. So one night, they sat up in their bed and thought hard about the whole problem.

"I've got it," Simon said with a smile. "Mommy and daddy never fought when we were really good, from now on, we'll be super good. That'll work."
"That's a great plan," Sammy said. "Tomorrow morning at breakfast, we'll be fabulously good and tell mommy she's very pretty." With that the monkeys nodded, closed their little eyes, and drifted away to sleep.

"Sammy, Simon, we need to talk," Daddy monkey said adjusting his glasses. "Now when grownups are angry at each other, we can say some pretty mean things. Sometimes we get so mad that the only thing to do is not live together anymore."
"I don't understand Daddy, don't you love us anymore," Sammy asked.
"We'll stop being bad," Simon said puckering his lips out.

"Come here guys," Daddy monkey said as he hugged each of his little monkeys. "It's not you fault and nothing you could've done would change anything." Sammy and Simon were sad though and they didn't say anything.
"Will we ever see you again," Sam asked.
"You'll see me every weekend. In fact this Saturday I happen to need two little monkeys to help me move into my new apartment," Daddy monkey said.
"Follow my lead Sam," Simon whispered.

"You have a pair of monkeys on your legs," Simon shouted as he lunged onto his Daddy's leg. Daddy loved having little monkeys on his leg, and Simon knew if he held on long enough his Daddy would change his mind and they could be a happy family again.
"Monkey on your leg," Sam laughed. Daddy chuckled and walked around the kitchen carrying his two little monkeys. Mommy even laughed.
"It's working," Simon whispered.

After a long time, Daddy's legs got tired and let the monkeys off his legs. Simon and Sam smiled, they knew that Daddy would never leave his little leg monkeys.
"I love you guys," Daddy said as he reached his arms around Sam and Simon.
"What's happening," Sam said. Daddy never looked this sad after leg monkeys usually. Something must be wrong. They must've been very bad monkeys.
"Don't go Daddy, we love you," Simon said squeezing his daddy's neck.
"Everything is going to be okay, I promise."
"Monkey promise," Sam demanded.
"I monkey promise," Daddy said as he kissed his two little monkeys goodbye.

School wasn't very fun that day. Simon and Sam didn't want to do anything. When the other children went to lunch, they sat in the class room and ate alone. When all the other children played outside, Simon and Sam just sat in their seats and cried.

After lunch, Simon didn't feel very good. His head hurt, his tummy ached, and his eyes were tired of crying. Samantha didn't feel very good ether so Miss Penguin called their mommy and before they knew it, she arrived at the school to take them home.

"Your Daddy is very worried about you," Mommy said. "He heard you weren't feeling very good. He said he hopes you feel better by the weekend so you can help him move into his new apartment."
"I don't want Daddy to move," Simon said.
"Me ether," Samantha replied. Mommy sighed a little and didn't say anything all the way home. Simon thought he saw his mommy cry a little, but grown ups don't cry, do they?

Before the little monkeys knew it, Saturday came and so did Daddy. Simon and Sam jumped into his arms and hugged him so long that their arms hurt.
"I have a surprise for you," Daddy said to his little monkeys.
"What is it," Sam asked her eyes widening.
"Well, if you want, you can stay at my new apartment tonight. Run along and grab your favorite pajamas and I'll be right here when you return." Like lighting, the two monkeys bolted to their room and grabbed their favorite pajamas. Before they knew it, both little monkeys were sitting in the back seat of their daddy's car going to his apartment.

After what seemed like forever, Sam and Simon arrived at Daddy's apartment. It wasn't as big as their house, but it was nice. Daddy took their coats and put them away as Simon and Sam explored the apartment.
"You know what this place needs," Daddy asked. "I could really use some pictures, but I'm not very good at drawing."
"We can draw some for you," the little moneys said happily.
"Good, I have some crayons right here."

Simon and Sam spent all day drawing. They had to take a small break for dinner, but right afterwards they returned to their drawing. Sam drew a pony with a beautiful red streak in its hair while Simon drew a little castle sitting on the edge of the ocean. Daddy loved their pictures and smiled whenever Simon or Sam handed him a new one.
In fact, they drew so much that before they knew it was time for bed, but that's okay because their Daddy had run out of places to keep their art.

"Good night monkeys," Daddy said as he kissed them on their foreheads.
"Good night Daddy," the two little monkeys replied.
"I almost forgot," Daddy said with a smile. "I love you my little monkeys." Simon and Sam didn't say anything, but they smiled and they kept smiling as Daddy turned off the lights and closed the door. Before they knew it, the little monkeys were fast asleep dreaming of banana sundaes.

The little monkeys learned an important lesson that day. Just because mommy and daddy don't love each other as much as they did, doesn't mean that they don't still love you. Sometimes parents live in different houses and it might not make a lot of sense even to the smartest little monkey.
It's hard sometimes, and it's okay to cry a little. Just remember, everything is going to be okay. That's my monkey promise to you.
