Casual
it starts out casualcoffee and cigarettes and a little conversation
the exchange of numbers
and small presents
at first everything is significant
the way he looks at you
interpreted a thousand ways
inside your head
and then you make plans
and all of a sudden it's something
and everyone wants to know what it is
except for you
and then it gets physical
and you can't smell anything but him
you could be walking through the city
and you sense him on streetcorners
you know he's been there
and then nothing is special
he calls you pretty and it sounds overused
his stories are dull and you've heard them all before
and you are used to his kisses
and you don't tremble
like you used to
and you miss that
so you don't call
and you don't call
and you call
but you don't talk
and you leave things unended
and all the thought and trying
end up worth nothing
and you end up crying and alone
and then you stop
erase that part of your life
and go back to being casual.
